Yea Carole, I have decided to keep him but I am not sure if it will be for breeding or not.

I have no luck with Craigslist. I have had no response and there is never any chicken stuff on my local one. :(

I think the Americauna is a bigger breed because I just seen some at the fair and they were huge.

The roosters are out of control right now!

So maybe the wimpy rooster is now worth keeping. He may be the best protector you have. Only time will tell.

I sell my chickens and extras on Craigslist also. Great place to frequent for used chicken stuff too.

Sorry to hear about your hen-pecked rooster, pardon the pun :). One of my four two-month old chicks is an Ameracauna rooster. He has the looks of being beautiful, no tail, black with a green sheen. Can't wait to see what he looks like as he grows. Anyway, I hope he doesn't turn out to be a wimp. I'm going to keep mine separate because I know the main rooster will attack to kill if he could.

I have so enjoyed reading your blog. I don't have as many chickens as you do, but have had some of the same experiences. My new chicks have finally grown up and just began laying last week....they are so proud of themselves. You are right....now that they are laying and our older hens continue to lay...we have enough eggs to supply the neighborhood!!!

We, too, had to get rid of a few roosters. We kept only one, to protect the hens (or so they think).

I will definitely come back to hear more about your chickens! Thanks for sharing!

I also have the problem of mean roosters. The little bantam Silver SeBrights we have are the most aggressive. It is a pitiful sight to see those little roosters pulling out hunks of feathers from roosters 3 times their size.
The poor Golden and Silver Polish roosters really get abused.
We will be thinning out roosters soon also. You can only have so many roosters and the mean ones will kill the others too.
Good luck on your barbecue.
